Our project engineers are essential to our business, creating innovative solutions and problem-solving for our clients.
We are proud of our diverse team of engineers, who each bring their unique set of skills and ways of thinking to the table.
We caught up with Zak Osman to learn more about being a project engineer at Irideum.
From an early age, I have always been interested in maths and science and found engineering intriguing.
I studied chemical engineering at university, which has proved very transferable to the food-related projects we work on as they involve the same principles regarding flow, capacity engineering and mass production.
My degree gave me a comprehensive perspective of engineering, including aspects of project management and mechanical engineering.
I started working for Irideum in November 2020.
No week is the same, and I enjoy the variety that comes with working at Irideum.
Your workload depends on where we are in the project cycle. For example, you could be on-site reviewing the progress of a project and carrying out quality inspections to managing contractor safety and project planning.
Being able to problem solve and think on your feet are essential skills you need to excel in this role.
The main challenge is in building healthy, sustainable relationships with contractors and clients. Working in this role has helped me improve and build on my people skills.
Learning how to manage contractors effectively and collaborating with our clients is essential to completing a project safely, on time and to budget.
The variety of projects you get involved in means my work is varied, and my skills and knowledge have vastly increased in a short time.
The development at Irideum is also unique; everyone has their own technical and personal development plans. Learning and development are very high on the company agenda.
A particular highlight has been getting some of the larger projects over the line. You get a real sense of achievement and accomplishment, and it is satisfying to see these projects’ results and business improvements.
I am also very proud of a solution I came up with that solved a production bottleneck caused by insufficient raw material supply. I can’t go into much detail as it is top secret!
